DESIGNING AND INSTALLING FOR PRIVATE AND COMMERCIAL CLIENTS THROUGHOUT THE UK
What is PUR adhesive when talking about the edging of Aquarium Cabinet panels?
When Panels are made to be clad to your steel frame, each panel needs to be edged, usually in a similar finish to the actual panel colour itself. The edging means that no wood core is visible nor is the wood core exposed directly to moisture. Standard panels have the edging attached using a standard EVA glue. This isn't waterprrof and means that only minimal exposure to water will ruin your boards.
PUR (Polyurethane Reactive) edgebanding is the only choice of Aquariums4Life where the strength of the bond and the resistance to moisture is absolutely essential.
The high bond strength is maintained even when panels are subject to wet or humid environments where the usual EVA glues, used throughout the industry are unsuitable and insufficient.
PUR glue is a more costly method than the more common EVA alternative, since it requres additional machinery and techniques and can not be be re-melted once used hence the reason why competitors choose to remain working with these less suitable adhesives in the form of EVA.
At Aquariums4Life, luxury and precision is the ethos strived for by all our team, through investing in the future of aquarium production we offer quality which is simply unrivaled, from the things which can be seen as well as those which can not.
What is the difference between PUR and EVA hotmelt adhesive?
Hotmelt adhesives are used for bonding edgings to wood. Edge-banding using EVA-hotmelt is still the most common, However where joints need to be particularly water or heat resistant then PUR is recommended as this has a significantly higher water and heat resistance than EVA (Ostermann).
PUR is cured by moisture and must therefore remain sealed until application. Once applied and exposed to moisture in the atmosphere the PUR forms an initial strong bond which continues to harden towards a permanent bond.
