Pelmet Options
Aquariums4Life are able to offer a number of alternative designs from a standard Open-Top Pelmet to a Full Steel-framed to-the-ceiling custom piece.
The advice has always been to opt for an open pelmet wherever possibly rather than closing the top of your aquarium in. It is not advisable to have the laminate panels, from which your pelmet is constructed, exposed directly, for any lengthy period of time, to water. The panels will spoil. However...
Aquariums4Life now use a PUR Glue system when edging all the laminate panels used for cabinets and pelmets.
What is PUR Glue? How is this relevant to me?
PUR, or Prepolymer Adhesives are one of the most modern adhesives to be used. They are excellent in the most demanding of situations and most importantly are waterproof providing added protection.
The Standard Open Pelmet
The open pelmet is supplied with all Aquarium Cabinets (not braceless builds).
This fits around the top of your aquarium, masking the internal glass bracing around the inside of the top of your tank.
"The height of the standard pelmet is 7" / 175mm, and this sits over your aquarium by approx. 2" / 60mm. Custom Sizes are available.
The Open Pelmet - Tropical Design
The open pelmet for your tropical aquarium is built to ensure no interference between your pelmet and the pipework exiting the back of your aquarium through the gaps in the back corners of your bracing.
The internal bracing of the open pelmet can also act as a support for your lighting.
The height of the standard pelmet is 7" / 175mm, and this sits over your aquarium by approx. 2" / 60mm.
The Open Pelmet - Marine Design
The open pelmet for your marine aquarium is built to sit over the top of your tank. The internal bracing of the open pelmet can act as a support for your lighting.
The back of your pelmet will be drilled to allow for cable access.
The height of the standard pelmet is 7" / 175mm, and this sits over your aquarium by approx. 2" / 60mm.
The Steel Framed Pelmet
If you are looking for ease of access then Aquariums4Life have developed the steel framed front opening pelmet to suit your needs.
The doors are now attached in such a way that the doors on the pelmet will copy the door style on the cabinet
The Closed Top Pelmet*
If you are looking for a closed lid for your aquarium then Aquariums4Life can offer the closed pelmet design. The standard overall height of the closed lid is 196mm.
These hoods are built so as to exclude tropical pipework and open weirs from the pelmet interior.
*Used only with aquariums with sliding glass covers.
